Just Call Me Lana; Just Call This Schwab's

I just slipped out for a quick pizza at Punch where a young man approached me and asked me if I'd be interested in being an extra in a Coen brothers movie. I said it could be interesting, and he said they need about 300 people to film a scene set at an event in a synagogue. "Ah", I said, "and I look the part".

Are you Jewish then, he asked tentatively. Oh yes, said I. That would be good, he said, because they would like to have people who would know the .. the.. (here he struggled for what might be right word for Hebrew prayer). I interrupted and said, yes, I would indeed know the prayer responses.

It would be for a few days come November. He gave me a business card with a number to call. The business card does not have his name on it (it's Derek, though, that he told me). It simply says "A Serious Man: a film by Joel and Ethan Coen". Along the side it says "Extras casting". There's an address (for an office near mine), a Hotline number, an office number, and an email address for factotumcanterbury which I have since Googled and it seems to be a local concern that specializes in finding extras so it all seems quite legit.

I'm not sure what I think about following up here. I have no particular desire to appear as an extra in a movie, and the days themselves will likely be quite tedious (and I'd have to take vacation days). But still, it could be something different and fun and it would certainly be an experience.

I'm not likely to call, but I have a couple of days to decide.
